Installation Assistant: please merge /install and /install/os
#3 Updated by sajolida over 2 years ago
- Status changed from New to Confirmed
- Assignee set to tchou
- QA Check set to Info Needed
I'm personally in favor on this. Tchou was the one who defended having a welcoming splash screen but seeing the assistant live today and the complains of users, it seems like an extra screen that's only bothering returning users with little benefit for first-time users as we could get the same welcoming effect if /install and /install/os were merged. So I'm assigning this to tchou to have his opinion.

- QA Check changed from Info Needed to Ready for QA
- Feature Branch set to doc/11493-merge-install-welcome
Here is a branch.
But I'm not sure I'm in favor of this anymore. If we make it much easier to arrive to the download page without going through the assistant, like proposed on #11494, then only people installing will go through this page, and these are the kind of people needing the recomfort that this page was meant to provide and which worked during user testing.

In the event that these pages are merged, the comments made on #11604 still apply XD but with four options:
1. Assisted Download:
+ Let's Start The Journey
2. Direct Download:
+ Install Firefox Add-on to Download & Verify
+ Download .iso & .asc Directly
+ Download .torrent File (which contains .iso & .asc) Directly
Labels still need some thought XD

- Assignee changed from tchou to sajolida
It seems that the work on this got stuck even though sajolida had prepared a branch. I'm unsure what to do about that. @sajolida, maybe somebody else than tchou can review the branch? Or, if you're unsure about wanting to merge this, let's close this ticket?

- QA Check changed from Ready for QA to Dev Needed
- Type of work changed from Discuss to User interface design
Looking at this again today, I feel like merging this and rejecting #11494. Maybe making "Download only" a bit bigger and structured differently on this single page.
Being hard for power and returning users to download our ISO is a recurring topic in the interviews we made, so let's try to tackle this as part of core UX.
- Assignee changed from sajolida to u
- Target version set to Tails_3.7
- QA Check changed from Dev Needed to Ready for QA
- Type of work changed from User interface design to Website
Here is a branch!
Ulrike: Same as #15114#note-3. I think this is core UX.
